Hotaru is tempted to believe that her amateur Spy skills are improving with how easily she’s now able to sneak through the RED base and into their Medbay undetected (so far as she knows). In actuality, she’s simply done it enough by now that she knows which paths are most likely to be empty and safe at certain times. But it’s fun to pretend. And she’ll take what cheering up she can right now. It isn’t pleasant business that brings her here.
Moving as silently as she can through the infirmary, just in case, she reaches the large tank. She hesitates then, wondering if she can leave before the hybrid inside can sense her presence. But she’s put this off long enough as it is. If she doesn’t do this, she’ll regret it for a very long time. Taking a short breath, she gently taps the glass with her knuckles.
He was lightly napping, nothing major. He was curled up on his side, facing the glass. His tentacles were lazily clinging to the side, absentmindedly latching on in his sleep. When he hears the knocking, he rouses himself. Blinking a few times, his eyes focus on a familiar, and truly welcomed, face.
Excited, he automatically forces himself to wake up. He rises to the top, reaching out and grabbing onto the edge of the tank. Propping himself against said edge, he smiles down at her.
“Hotaru! It’s great to see you! I haven’t seen you for a vhile.”
It’s hard not to smile around Jaecar. He reminds her of Nikki with his perpetual, infectious optimism. She’s still herself, though, so the smile she directs up at the hybrid is small and crooked.
“…Yeah. I’ve been kind of busy. With the… transfer and all…”
